Former military servicemen and law enforcement officers may receive civilian pensions in addition to the main pension received from the relevant agency. In order to do so, they will need a civilian labor record acquired upon their discharge from service, a minimal number of pension points, and the achievement of a retirement age. This year, the qualifications stand at 13 years of labor record, 23.4 pension points, and retirement age of 61.1 years for men and 56.5 years for women.
A retired serviceman who becomes a businessman and pays mandatory pension insurance contributions is also entitled to a civilian pension on the aforesaid conditions.
Nowadays, 780,000 military pensioners receive an old-age insurance pension assigned by the PFR.
In addition to pensions, retired servicemen are entitled to certain social benefits, including the monthly benefit. This is a federal benefit currently paid by the Pension Fund to all servicemen who develop a disability in the line of duty (as well as officers of the Emergency Situations Ministry, police officers and firemen), war veterans, families of deceased servicemen, Heroes of Russia and the USSR, disabled veterans and veterans of WWII and their families. More than 1 million people are receiving these benefits.
Starting this year, the Pension Fund is also making a number of payments, which were earlier provided to the families of military servicemen and law enforcement officers by social protection services. These benefits include a one-off payment to pregnant wives of conscripts, a monthly benefit to a conscript’s child, compensation for public utility bills of families of deceased military servicemen, an annual benefit for summer vacation of a child, etc. In all, the benefits are received by 175,000 persons.
