The majority of former fighters arrive for resort treatment with healthcare professionals capable of providing comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions, including consequences of mine-blast and gunshot wounds, musculoskeletal injuries, traumatic brain injuries and cardiovascular diseases. 19,000 SMO veterans have undergone rehabilitation in institutions managed by the Social Fund this year.
The Kristall center in Anapa welcomed the largest group: 4,600 fighters received medical and resort treatment there. Overall, veterans from 85 Russian regions visited the Social Fund's centers throughout the year.
Based on the treatment outcomes, 90.75% of former SMO servicemen improved their health. 92.4% of former servicemen with musculoskeletal system and peripheral nervous system disorders showed improvement after completing their rehabilitation. Patients with central nervous system disorders improved their condition in 85.9% of cases. Pain was reduced in 96.9% of patients, while 78.6% showed improvement in their motor functions.
Next year, the Social Fund will continue to provide rehabilitation and resort treatment to veterans In order to make these services more accessible, starting in January, free travel to the rehabilitation centers will be provided not only as refunds of already incurred expenses, the way it is done now, but also as electronic tickets and personalized transport orders. That way, SMO veterans will be able to secure prepaid travel to their chosen center immediately, with no need to spend their own money and apply for a refund later.
On top of that, veterans will be able to come to rehabilitation centers for treatment with accompanying persons, whose travel, accommodation and meals will also be covered. This applies to former servicemen with group I disabilities or those requiring assistance due to their medical condition.
This year, the Social Fund allocated over RUB 220 million on compensations for rehabilitation center travel expenses. Virtually all types of transport are covered, including rail, air and motor car trips.
Remember that SMO veterans can submit applications for treatment at the Social Fund's centers through the Gosuslugi Portal or in person at any local branch of the Fund, regardless of their actual place of residence. The decision to refer a patient for resort treatment or medical rehabilitation is made within two business days after submitting the application together with medical documents.
