The Social Fund of Russia has analyzed the names of more than 42.6 million pension recipients.
Top 5 names among the older generation:
For men, these names are Vladimir (8.9%), Aleksandr (8.8%), Sergey (8.1%), Nikolay (6.2%) and Viktor (4.9%). Most popular names for women are Tatyana (7.8%), Valentina (6.0%), Galina (6.0%), Lyudmila (5.4%), and Elena (5.1%).
The top ten also included the names Yuri, Anatoly, Mikhail, Alexey, and Valery (male), as well as Olga, Natalya, Nadezhda, Svetlana, and Lidiya (female).
Top 5 names for 2024 newborns:
At the same time, parents are increasingly choosing the names Aleksandr (4.1%), Mikhail (3.73%), Artyom (3.19%), Matvey (2.7%) and Maksim (2.46%) for their sons, and Sofia (3.73%), Eva (3.08%), Anna (2.98%), Maria (2.7%) and Victoria (2.52%) for their daughters.
The top 10 most popular names for newborns also included Timofey, Ivan, Lev, Mark, and Dmitry (male), as well as Varvara, Vasilisa, Alisa, Polina, and Miroslava (female).
Notably, the name Aleksandr is the only one that consistently ranks high in popularity for both retirees and newborn boys, confirming its status as a timeless classic. The name Mikhail, which previously held eighth place, now leads the rating for boys, demonstrating a comeback trend.
The "bronze" male name among retirees, Sergey, does not rank in the top ten contemporary names for boys. Meanwhile, the leading female names of the past, Tatyana and Galina, are currently outside of modern fashion trends.
