Retirees' QR codes help secure tickets and discounts

Starting last year, retirees have been able to secure transport benefits and discounts via digital QR codes that replace paper documents and make it easier to verify their status as retirees. The digital option saves time, as people do not have to carry documents around, and allows to use the same code in different situation.

A retiree's QR code is an electronic identifier confirming their retirement status and eligibility for benefits. In particular, the digital certificate can be used to secure discounts at retail outlets and pharmacies, museums, exhibitions and theaters, as well as for confirming the right to subsidized public transport travel.

The digital certificate is convenient since there is no need to submit any applications to get it, or to always have it on your person. QR codes for all retirees are automatically generated in their personal accounts on the Gosuslugi Portal and are accessible from smartphones. For even more convenience, a digital certificate can now also be presented in the MAX messenger.

It is also important for retirees that QR codes are versatile and secure enough. When the digital code is scanned, only the individual's benefit eligibility is verified, while personal data like the pension amount or disability group remains hidden, ensuring privacy. On top of that, the exact same code is valid throughout Russia and is suitable for various types of benefits.

Notably, all paper and plastic retirement certificates remain valid and still verify retirement status equally to digital QR codes. Retirees can use whichever format is convenient for them or make use of both. Local branches of the Social Fund are still providing standard-issue physical retirement certificates.
