Social Fund to pay for extra days off for 130,000 parents of disabled children

Employers pay for four days off a month at the employee's average salary rate, and the Social Fund reimburses the corresponding expenses to the employer. Parents use the extra time they get to care for the child.

Last year, the funds allocated by the fund for this specified insurance measure for families with disabled children grew by more than 70% and amounted to RUB 20.4 billion. In total, the fund provided the benefit to nearly 130,000 parents. This year, extra days off have already been paid off for 77,000 parents.

Families with disabled children are entitled to four additional days off per month, which can be spent for child care, for example, to go see a specialist doctor, do a check-up or get the required drug. The mother and the father can take these days off in turns or concurrently.

If a parent does not use the provided days for child care during the relevant month, they accumulate and can be used later, including in the form of a short leave lasting up to 24 days, if the employer agrees. Please remember that all extra days off shall be used in the year they were provided in. You cannot carry them to the next year or replace with a monetary compensation.

An application shall be submitted to the employer in order to get extra days off. The application shall have a statement from the other parent's workplace attached, certifying if they have already been provided with such days off and how many. If mom or dad changed jobs in the current year, they will also have to provide a statement on extra days off from their former workplace.

Legal guardians or trustees of a disabled child are also entitled to extra days off.
