Since the beginning of the year, 8,200 veterans of the special military operation have undergone treatment at rehabilitation centers controlled by the Social Fund. They provide veterans with resort and medical services free of charge as per medical indications.
SMO servicemen chose the convenient time for travel, while the centers' staff provide them with personalized assistance. Medics develop individual recovery programs based on injury or illness taxonomies. Rehabilitation at the Social Fund facilities lasts on average 21 to 23 days, the resort treatment duration can be as long as 21 days.
All Social Fund client offices or a multifunctional center can refer veterans to rehabilitation centers, regardless of their actual place of residence. Submitting an application for treatment online via the Gosuslugi Portal is also an option.
Documents from a healthcare institution documents confirming indications and the absence of contraindications for medical rehabilitation or resort treatment shall be presented. If an SMO veteran does not have such documents, local branches of the Social Fund assist in obtaining them.
The decision to refer a patient for resort treatment or medical rehabilitation is made within two business days after submitting the application. Within a day after that, the Social Fund informs the veteran of the results.
In order to make rehabilitation and health resort treatment services more accessible for special military operation veterans, we provided for the reimbursement of their travel expenses to the rehabilitation center and back. An application with travel documents attached is required to receive a travel refund. Virtually any type of transport, including rail, plane, water transport, bus, or personal car, is eligible for compensation.
Starting this year, veterans of the special operation can obtain travel tickets to get to the Social Fund's medical centers. Thanks to that, demobilized servicemen can avoid spending their own money on travel or having to apply for compensation.
For that purpose, the Social Fund provides SMO participants with the documents required to obtain tickets from carriers. Over 14,000 such documents have been issued this year for all types of transport, including train, plane, bus or water transport. The Social Fund branches issue travel vouchers upon application. When submitting it, the SMO participant chooses the form of their travel coverage: as compensation for their own expenses or travel documents.
Note that, starting this year, veterans will be able to come for treatment to the Social Fund's rehabilitation centers with accompanying persons, whose travel, accommodation and meals at the center will also be covered. Such benefit applies to former servicemen with group I disabilities or those requiring assistance due to their medical condition.
Notably, Heroes of Russia and disabled individuals Group I are referred to the Social Fund's centers on a priority basis.
Demobilized SMO servicemen started receiving medical rehabilitation and resort treatment in healthcare centers under by the Social Fund in 2025. Over 19,000 veterans improved their health last year. 22,000 servicemen are expected to do the same this year.
