Over 15,000 SMO fighters undergo treatment in Social Fund’s centers

The Social Fund's rehabilitation centers have admitted 15,200 participants in the special military operation this year. More than a thousand of them underwent treatment accompanied by their loved ones and relatives – an option that became available this year.

Veterans may come to a rehabilitation center with an accompanying person, whose travel, accommodation, and meals are also covered. This benefit applies to SMO participants with Group I disabilities and those requiring an attendant based on medical indications.

An application has to be submitted in order to start the health improvement process. Referrals to rehabilitation centers are processed by all client offices of the Social Fund and multifunctional centers, regardless of the veteran's place of residence. Applications can also be made online via the Gosuslugi public services website.

The application is submitted together with documents from a healthcare institution confirming the medical necessity and the absence of contraindications for medical rehabilitation or health resort treatment. If an SMO veteran does not have these documents, local branches of the Social Fund render assistance in obtaining them.

A decision regarding the referral for health resort treatment or medical rehabilitation is made within two business days after the application is submitted. Within a day after that, the Social Fund informs the veteran of the processing results.

In order to make rehabilitation and health resort treatment services more accessible for special military operation veterans, their travel expenses to the rehabilitation center and back are reimbursed. Starting this year, SMO veterans may also receive travel tickets so as to get to medical rehabilitation centers. As part of its travel cost coverage service, the Social Fund provides SMO participants with the necessary documents for receiving free travel tickets from transport operators.

As a reminder, discharged SMO servicemen started receiving medical rehabilitation and health resort treatment services in the Social Fund’s healthcare centers in 2025. Over 19,000 veterans improved their health last year. More than 22,000 veterans are expected to do the same this year.
