Since the launch of the maternity capital program in 2007, more than 15 million certificates have been issued to Russian families.
"Over the entire period the maternity capital program has been in effect – it was started back in 2007 – over 15 million certificates have been issued. The payment amount is indexed annually for inflation, so people can choose for themselves when and how to use it," said Sergey Chirkov, Chairman of the Social Fund of Russia.
According to the Head of the Social Fund, the current options of using maternity capital cover a family's basic needs. First of all, these are improving housing conditions, including paying off a mortgage, as well as educating children. Sergey Chirkov added that funds can now be used for education not only in universities but also in other organizations, as well as for various courses and classes.
